DFX Honda World Superbike rider Michel Fabrizio will return to MotoGP action this weekend at Donington Park, after being announced as the replacement for the injured Toni Elias at Fortuna Honda.

"Michel replaces Toni for this race," confirmed team manager Fausto Gresini. "I hope that Toni will recover soon and to have him back in Germany. As for Michel, I think that this can be for him a good experience."

Fabrizio completed a partial, but at times impressive, MotoGP season with underdogs WCM in 2004, before splitting from the team mid-season and heading for the World Supersport championship.

The 21-year-old Honda favourite then remained in WSS for 2005, finishing fifth in the championship, before graduating to the premier WSBK class for 2006. The Italian has taken a best finish of fifth from the first six rounds of the season.

"I'm very happy," said Michel of the Donington ride. "This is an important chance for me to grow and work with a top team on the best bike. I want to thank Honda and Fausto Gresini for this opportunity."

Elias injured his shoulder when he fell on Thursday at Assen, but is expected to be fit for the following German Grand Prix on July 16.
