The calendar for the 2002 season of the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix is the following:

Jamieson's leaving present.
Garry McCoy's crew chief Hamish Jamieson received the leaving present of a lifetime from his team at Phillip Island - a ride on the two -seater Yamaha grand prix bike with Randy Mamola on Friday afternoon.

Gardner and Sheene join hall of fame.
Two riders who have done as much to promote grand prix motorcycle racing in their respective countries than anybody else joined the MotoGP Hall of Fame at Phillip Island on Saturday morning.

The race goes on at Sepang.
This year's 500 World Championship may already have been decided but the action will be as fast and furious as ever at Sepang on Sunday. Marlboro Yamaha Team duo Max Biaggi and Carlos Checa will be racing just the same as they do on every Grand Prix weekend - to win.

Jurgen van den Goorbergh finishes tenth.
Proton Team KR rider Jurgen van den Goorbergh made sure of yet another top ten finish in yesterday's Australian GP, fending off former World Champion Alex Criville's Honda over the line, in spite of losing time through problems of his own earlier in the race.
Rossi crowned 500cc World Champion.
Valentino Rossi was yeaterday crowned 500cc World Champion 2001 after a stunning victory by 0.013 seconds from Biaggi at the Qantas Australian Grand Prix.

Untroubled by yesterday's crash and a brush with the local police (ironically for speeding), Valentino Rossi qualified a close second for the Australian GP.

Capirossi returns to scene of greatest triumph.
It was pretty obvious to the other diners that some plot was being hatched at the table in the corner. It was difficult to hear what was being discussed above the din of a typical Aussie Saturday night out, but it certainly appeared to be pretty important.

Australian Grand Prix wild-cards.
The wild-card riders who will race in the Qantas Australian Grand Prix, scheduled at Phillip Island on October 14th next - round 14 of the MotoGP World Championship - are the following:
MZ in, but no sign of Sauber.
The much-hyped Sauber MotoGP engine appears not to have found a home, as there was no mention of an entry in the revamped series for 2002.
Doohan: I would be top five on RCV!
Five-time world champion Mick Doohan reckoned he could have finished in the top five of the Pacific 500cc Grand Prix on Honda's new for 2002 RCV four-stroke machine.

The governing body of world motorcycle racing has decided to crack down on riders wishing to enter the premier GP500 class without sufficient experience

Proton go to stop-and-go Motegi.
The spectacular Twin-Ring Motegi circuit is a track of surprises, and Proton Team KR is hoping to cause another if turns circumstances in favour of its lightweight three-cylinder racer next weekend.

Poggiali signs, Elias waits on 250 ride.
The two 18-year-old riders battling it out for the MotoGP 125cc championship are already thinking about next year, with one definitely remaining in the class and the other apparently 250cc bound.

Nohles loses Aprilia seat.
German Klaus Nohles will not ride in the final four MotoGP 250 races for Aprilia.

McCoy: The pain was unbelievable.
Red Bull Yamaha's Garry McCoy looked strangely off the pace in yesterday's race at Valencia, until it emerged that the Australian had injured himself - without crashing.

"I know I can go quicker," warns Rossi.
Valentino Rossi will take little comfort from today's first qualifying practice for the elite 500cc class despite controlling the session from start to finish. His best time of 1min 35.434secs is likely to be bettered tomorrow barring adverse weather conditions.
