Capirossi clips team-mate at 250kph.

Having qualified an amazing one-two for yesterday's Spanish Grand Prix, Ducati riders Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss nearly eliminated each other even before the race began after a heart-stopping incident on the formation lap, which wasn't caught on camera - and left both of them injured before the start.

"What happened on the warm-up lap was quite scary," explained Pole-sitter Capirossi. "I was doing maybe 250kmh (on the back straight) when two riders just ahead of me suddenly moved apart and I found myself racing towards Troy, who seemed to be going much slower.

"I tried to brake but it was too late to avoid him - I hurt my arm, bent the 'bar and damaged the fairing," stated the Italian, who went on to thrill the 128,000 fans with his sideways style, before being thrown from his machine on lap 13, whilst third.

"I got a good start but after a few laps it became difficult to ride the bike, because the riding position was a little strange, so maybe I had some tendon problems," revealed the #65. "I really hurt the arm in the crash, I thought it was broken but it's not, it just needs a lot of ice."

Team-mate Bayliss also rode in some pain following the warm-up-lap collision, the Italian's left handlebar making contact with the Australian's right leg.

"Everyone in front was suddenly going slower," recalled Troy. "So I slowed, then all the guys behind came past on my left, except Loris and another guy. I've done something to the leg, but nothing too bad."
