Trelawny step up plans, dismayed at Zagar.

Trelawny have stepped up their campaign to win public support for their proposed new speedway track near St Dennis. Trelawny have stepped up their campaign to win public support for their proposed new speedway track near St Dennis. The latest moves come after the JAG Tigers promotion were falsely accused of misrepresenting discussions at a recent meeting of St Enoder Parish Council. Representatives from the speedway club have been presenting their proposals at local Parish Council meetings.

A spokesman for the JAG Tigers said: "We were surprised at Tuesday's meeting of St Dennis Parish Council when one councillor, Mrs Elizabeth Hawken, publicly accused us of announcing on BBC Radio Cornwall that St Enoder were happy with our proposals. That was definitely not the case and we contracted Radio Cornwall, who emphatically told us that no such report was issued.

"It seems that people misconstrue the facts. Although the councillors at St Dennis did not seem in favour of our proposal, we believe it is important that time is given for a full discussion of the facts." With this in mind, Trelawny officials are raising the profile of their campaign to switch to a new venue to retain their Premier League place.

The spokesman added: "It is a fact that 24 full time staff are involved in our speedway operation. "It is a fact that 41 part time staff assist on race nights and it is also a fact that up to 1,200 spectators appreciate our sport. If we are forced to close, all the above will lose their enjoyment, which will effect their quality of life."

"One of the concerns has been the noise level, which will not seriously effect the health of local residents, for a period of two and a half hours per week on a Tuesday evening when the majority of locals are watching EastEnders on television. We do not want to lose one of Cornwall's top sports, which has seen some of the world's top sportsmen racing in the county."

"Cornish youth now have an ambition and goals which can see them achieve a level of work recognition from our small community. They have hopes of obtaining an enjoyable and exciting job which does not incur farm subsidies or working in our ever decreasing clay mining industry. It would be unfortunate to lose that through the small amount of noise."

Meanwhile, Trelawny have reacted to reports that Slovenian star Matej Zagar has signed a loan agreement with Premier League rivals Reading. We have been a little dismayed to hear on the grapevine that Matej is having serious talks with Reading," said a spokesman.

"We have been hoping that he will wait until the outcome of our planning application in January to see if we are running or not. It is believed that he has signed a loan deal for Reading. But, as far as we are concerned, we deem that to be null and void until after the January target date for our entry into the Premier League."
