Mervyn Whyte MBE has been reappointed MCRCB chief steward for the 2010 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.

This is the second year running that Whyte will take up the position, which involves working closely with BSB series director Stuart Higgs.

"I'm delighted to once again take on the role of chief steward," said Whyte, who was awarded an MBE in 2008 for his services to sport. "Last year was a very enjoyable challenge and I immensely enjoyed working with Stuart Higgs and the rest of the team.

"I see my role as a great opportunity to gain more knowledge and experience in the world of motorsport which I hope I can bring back and apply in Northern Ireland. I already look forward to the new championship season."

Last year, Whyte was also appointed to the role of race director of the International North West 200 - Ireland's largest outdoor sporting event. Whyte was clerk of course at the famous road race for eight years before taking up the new post.
