Steve Hislop is the new British Superbike champion, crowning his triumph with two podium finishes in the deciding round at Donington Park.

Already holding a comfortable points lead over closest challengers Sean Emmett and Michael Rutter the 40-year old Scot followed his Ducati rival home in both races, taking third in race one and second in race two, to earn the title some seven years after he last triumphed.

Rutter won both races but, coming from third in the title race, could only close to within 49.5points of the new champion.

John Reynolds completed the first race podium, with Steve Plater - Emmett's team-mate at the Virgin Mobile Aiwa Yamaha team - did likewise in race two. Emmett, for the record, retired from the opening event and did not start the second.
