Rea's Red Bull Honda lapped the bumpy track in a best time of 1min 17.92secs, with his fellow Honda UK rider Karl Harris in second place - just 0.02secs behind.

Both Virgin Mobile Samsung Yamahas came home together with Hill in third and Wren in fourth. Heading up row two is Rizla Suzuki's latest recruit, James Buckingham, qualifying ahead of his team-mate James Haydon who was seventh.

Splitting the two blue Suzukis was Steve Plater who had caused no end of confusion when his transponder failed to work during the session. Plater is on board the Honda that he took to second place at the North West 200 and will be after a race win.

Ollie Bridewell is another young rider with a point to prove this weekend and has qualified in eighth place on board his Superstock Vivaldi Kawasaki. Another Superstock regular, Les Shand qualified in ninth place, but his team mate Chris Burns crashed out in free practice and was unable to qualify due to having damaged his only machine.

Rounding out the top ten is Nick Pusey, a privateer on board a Yamaha R1, who just beat Steve Brogan to the final top ten place, leaving the Liverpudlian in eleventh.
