Dominant Ellison records maiden BSB double victory

James Ellison has secured his first MCE British Superbike double victory weekend after controlling race two from the front ahead of Shane Byrne and Josh Brookes

James Ellison has secured his first ever BSB double victory weekend with another dominant display around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, leading from defending BSB champion Shane Byrne and Milwaukee Yamaha's Josh Brookes.

In a repeat of the race one podium, Ellison controlled from the front and despite a safety car midway through the race he kept his nerve to take victory by the slender margin of 0.356s from Byrne.

Ellison stormed off the start line and was a rider possessed, breaking his lap record from race one around the Indy circuit with a 45.212s on lap two. The JG Speedfit rider quickly pulled out a sizeable margin over the chasing trio of Byrne, Kiyonari and Brookes. Kiyonari ran wide at Druids to let Brookes slip through into the final rostrum position.

Morello Racing's Danny Johnson suffered a nasty high-side crash at Clark Curve on lap 13 which brought out the safety car to enable stewards to attend the stricken rider and bike. That allowed the chasing bunch to line up behind the race one winner for a seven lap sprint.

However, Ellison kept his composure to record his third victory of the 2015 season and looks to be defending champion Byrne biggest challenger heading to Oulton Park for round three.

Kiyonari scrambled home to take fourth place ahead of PBM Kawasaki rider Stuart Easton, while Tommy Bridewell recovered from a race one crash to finish sixth. Howie Mainwaring earned himself a second consecutive seventh place, with Danny Buchan, Billy McConnell and Jason O'Halloran rounding out the top ten.

Broc Parkes continued to adapt to life in BSB with an 11th place finish, while Christian Iddon, Chris Walker, Peter Hickman and Richard Cooper completed the points-paying positions.

Byrne, the four-time BSB champion, leaves round two still on top of the riders' standings but his lead has been cut to six points with double race winner Ellison in hot pursuit.
