Motorbase Perfomance has confirmed it will expand into the British GT Championship this season alongside its Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship programme.

The team - which will run cars for Mat Jackson, Liam Griffin and Aron Smith in the BTCC - has announced plans to run a Porsche 911 GT3R in the GT series, where it previously competed prior to the move into touring cars.

Long-time Motorbase driver Michael Caine will be joined at the wheel by Daniele Perfetti

"Porsche is a tried and trusted brand," team boss David Bartrum said. "It is familiar ground, but the car is stepping up a league. It is a new challenge, but we're going back to something we're used to doing.

"Daniele has already done some GT racing in Europe and Michael has a strong heritage in GT racing. He competed at Le Mans for TVR and raced Porsches with Mike Jordan. Daniele has now learnt the British tracks during his Carrera Cup campaign last year.

"We understand the car and it is a product we know and love."

The announcement comes after Motorbase withdrew from the Porsche Carrera Cup for the 2012 season.
