Giancarlo Fisichella's lap of Spa-Francorchamps.

Giancarlo Fisichella has yet to win a grand prix, but you know that, when he does rack up his first, he would wish it to be a just one of a few select venues.

Spa-Francorchamps, home of the Belgian Grand Prix is, as David Coulthard revealed earlier in the year, one of the circuits most drivers want to conquer. This is how Fisichella plans to approach it in the Benetton-Playlife B200 this weekend.

''Spa is one of my favourite circuits on the calendar, and one of the longest at nearly seven kilometres. The lap starts as you cross the start-finish line at over 260kph, reaching a peak speed of about 280kph before braking for La Source hairpin, which is taken in first gear at about 60kph.

I then accelerate down the hill, past the old pits, reaching 310kph before reaching what is probably the most challenging corner of any grand prix circuit - Eau Rouge. All drivers attempt to take this flat in qualifying, but it is very tricky to do so. You need to lift on the throttle to take the complex of corners at a minimum speed of 280kph, but it is important to maintain speed through this corner due to the long uphill drag towards Les Combes.

I reach about 325kph before braking for the top chicane, which is taken in third gear at between 125 and 135kph. A short straight - where I reach 260kph - then leads to Rivage, which is a long right-hand corner taken in second gear, at around 100kph. At this corner, the circuit drops away, and the cars always tend to understeer.

A third gear left-hander taken at about 150kph then leads to another short straight, where I reach just under 300kph in fifth gear, before entering the very challenging fast double left-hander at Pouhon. I enter at 215kph and accelerate up to 270kph by the end of the second part of the corner.

A 300kph straight then leads into the Fagnes chicane, the first part of which is taken in third gear at 135kph, and the second in fourth at 160kph. The next corner is a third gear right-hander, taken at 130kph, followed almost immediately by a fourth gear right-hander, taken at 25kph, where the circuit rejoins the public road [Stavelot].

From here, I accelerate hard, heading back towards the [pits, and going through the super-fast left-hand Blanchimont corner at over 300kph. While this corner is flat in qualifying, it can be quite tricky if the circuit is damp, or the fuel load is high.

Very hard braking is needed into the small chicane known as the Bus Stop, which is taken in second gear at around 90kph. I have to use the kerbs here in order to attain a good lap time.

The final left-hand corner is taken flat, at around 190kph, as I accelerate out of the Bus Stop towards the star-finish line once again.''
