Sauber voyaged some difficult financial waters but now appears to be through the worst of it, with a new tie-up with Alfa Romeo offering a boost for the new season. Swansea has been among the lower-to-midfield in the Premier League in recent times, and the relegation battle looks like a tough one this season.

Both have great characters currently in charge of the operation. Sauber team principal Frederic Vasseur is a friendly, affable yet highly successful operator with his eyes firmly set on building something big in the long-term. Swansea manager Carlos Carvahal is doing something similar, saying: “When you come to a club, you have an emergency plan. Everything is burning and the first thing we must do is try to put water in the burn.”

The shoots of revival are beginning to peek through for both of these teams.
