Now Alan Wants Nigel

Alan Jones, F1 world champion with Williams in 1980, is the latest name to be linked with a possible BTCC showdown with Nigel Mansell.


Jones, a regular on the Australian touring car scene, has joined preceeding F1 titleist Jody Scheckter in indicating that he would like to take on the British driver. Scheckter was pencilled in to race at Donington Park on 14 June, but has now postponed his BTCC debut after time ran out to cement a deal.

The South Africa looks likely to drive a third Williams Renault Laguna after talks with Vauxhall broke down. With Jones having raced a Williams car at Bathurst last season, things could look bleak for Mansell should a three-way battle materialise
