Goodyear Withdrawal Confirmed.

Goodyear has finally confirmed its decision to pull out of Formula One at the end of the current season.


The American company originally announced its decision to quit F1 almost a year ago, but had continued to talk to certain teams about a possible U-turn. Now, however, it has notified its employees that the withdrawal will go ahead as planned.

This announcement has left the way clear for rival tyre company Bridgestone to supply the entire F1 grid in 1999. The Japanese firm will welcome Goodyear's statement as it will allow Bridgestone to supply tyre data to those teams needing to switch brands over the winter. It had previously been unwilling to do so in case Goodyear performed its half-expected about face.
