Gaston Mazzacane may still race in Formula One this year for the European-Minardi team as a replacement for Tarso Marques or even for the OrangeArrows team.

Mazzacane drove for Minardi last year and tested for Arrows in the January of 2000. Mazzacane's Manager, Eduardo Ramirez told PSN's website that while it was still too early to say anything they would be talking to two F1 teams.

Mazzacane added through the Argentinean news agency T?lam: "We agreed a separation with Prost. Now, we'll start evaluating some offers we had not taken care of before, due to our commitments with Prost Grand Prix. I don't want to talk more about it now."

It remains to be seen though why Arrows would sign the Argentine driver as they already have two equally good drivers (if not better) in Jos Verstappen and Enrique Bernoldi and with Johnny Herbert - there would appear to be no gap for a test driver.

Furthermore at European-Minardi, Giancarlo Minardi has been quick to deny any interest in the ex-Prost driver. He told ITV Sport: "Mazzacane made a choice at the end of 2000, leaving my team. I'm very sorry about what has happened to him but if he had taken another decision he could be driving a F1 car. Now our team has other plans, and I don't think there is any chance that Gaston might replace Marques."

Mazzacane's F1 future then looks far from assured and while Arrows seems to be 'pie-in-the-sky' Minardi might be a remote possibility - especially towards the end of 2001 if Marques continues to struggle to adapt to a modern F1 car. Watch this space...
