Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer was on top for the second day running today [Wednesday] at Mugello, the Italian's best four tenths up on his time from yesterday, while fellow Scuderia tester Felipe Massa was second best.

Badoer completed 96 laps, while Massa notched up 65, the day's technical programme again centring on tyre testing for Bridgestone and set-up work for the Japanese Grand Prix. The Scuderai test duo also undertook some electronics checks, prior to Michael Schumacher's arrival tomorrow, when he will test alongside Badoer.

At BAR-Honda meanwhile Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson were also in action, Sato returning to the circuit, despite crashing during yesterday's session. Taku was over half a second up on Davidson, his best lap a 1m 23.648s. Both drivers though notched up plenty of laps and at the end of the day the figure stood at over 200 for the Brackley based squad.

Jos Verstappen was the only other runner, the Dutchman running in the PS04, the ex-Arrows car which is likely to form the basis of the team's 2004 Formula One challenger.

Testing continues tomorrow [Thursday].
