Charouz Racing System has revealed Pedro Piquet and Louis Deletraz as its driver line-up for the 2020 Formula 2 championship.

Deletraz returns to the team he competed for in 2018 after one year at Carlin fresh from completing an outing with the Haas Formula 1 team at the post-season Pirelli tyre test in Abu Dhabi. The Swiss driver will start his fourth full F2 campaign in 2020 having ended last year eighth place in the drivers’ standings with three rostrum finishes.

The 22-year-old will partner rookie Piquet as he graduates from Formula 3 after finishing fifth in the drivers’ standings with the highlight of one race win and three additional podium results. Pedro is the 21-year-old son of three-time F1 world champion Nelson Piquet.

“It's fantastic that we have been able to confirm our F2 drivers before Christmas and it was particularly useful to work with Louis and Pedro across all three days of testing in Abu Dhabi,” Bob Vavrik, team principal, said.

“That allowed us to focus hard on the job that lies ahead and to lay some very firm foundations on the track before pre-season testing starts next year. I hope we will realise the benefit of that when the competition starts for real.”

The Czech Republic team endured a tough 2019 following the horrific crash at Spa-Francorchamps in which its driver Juan Manuel Correa suffered life-threatening injuries while BWT Arden’s Anthoine Hubert succumbed to his injuries. After lengthy surgeries to save his legs Correa is beginning his long road to recovery and is expected to remain out of action in 2020.

The 2020 F2 season gets underway in Bahrain on March 20-22.
