Nicholas Latifi breathed fresh life into his Formula 2 title hopes by beating Nyck de Vries to victory in Saturday's Feature Race at the Hungaroring, racking up his fourth win of the season.

Latifi managed to sweep past pole-sitter de Vries on the run to the first corner before fending the ART Grand Prix driver off through the opening stint, with both coming in early to switch to the prime tyre.

Latifi was able to scythe through the traffic to build a five-second buffer to de Vries early in the second stint that he maintained until the closing stages of the race, when a Safety Car period following a stoppage for Ralph Boschung bunched the field.

The race finished behind the Safety Car, leaving Latifi to celebrate his first win since the Spain Feature Race and cut de Vries' lead in the championship to 28 points.

Jack Aitken finished third ahead of Sergio Sette Camara and Nobuharu Matsushita, while Luca Ghiotto and Jordan King took sixth and seventh place respectively despite being hit with time penalties for breaking Virtual Safety Car procedure.

Mick Schumacher will start Sunday's Sprint Race from reverse grid pole after finishing eighth.
