Nyck de Vries has secured the 2019 Formula 2 title with a flawless charge to victory in the Russian Feature Race ahead of main challenger Nicholas Latifi, as he seals the crown with three races to spare.

In an F2 campaign which has seen de Vries dominate, the Dutch driver produced the perfect getaway from pole position before measuring his pace across the two tyre compounds to keep clear of the chasing pack and secure victory and with it the F2 title.

With a maximum of 65 points left to score this season, de Vries now has an unassailable 70-point advantage over Latifi, while he celebrated the title with his first race win since the French Feature Race.

With Latifi fending off a late attack from Luca Ghiotto to take second place, the Williams reserve driver will now focus on defending the runner-up spot in the championship against the Italian with a 15-point gap splitting the pair.

Ghiotto fell to fourth place at the chequered flag as his softer tyres, running the alternative strategy for the Feature Race, dropped off badly over the final lap which allowed Louis Deletraz to storm to the final podium spot to record just his third rostrum of the season.

Sergio Sette Camara held on to fifth place ahead of Nobuharu Matsushita with Monza Sprint Race-winner Jack Aitken taking seventh place.

Nikita Mazepin will start his home round Sprint Race from pole position after taking eighth place in the Feature Race – just his fourth points finish all season – with Callum Ilott and Guanyu Zhou rounding out the points places.

Mick Schumacher was forced to retire from the race due to a mechanical issue with his Prema, with thick smoking blowing out of his car for two laps before he pitted, with Artem Markelov the only other DNF due to a first-lap incident.
