Sour end to Waldschmidt rookie campaign.

Henki Waldschmidt brought a frustrating maiden season of Formula 3 racing to a disappointing close at Hockenheim when he failed to get on the score sheet for the first time.

Waldschmidt, a graduate of the Formula Renault Eurocup, was one of several rookies joining a bumper 2008 F3 Euroseries grid, but while he often qualified well in the SG Formula car, his best result of seventh place in the second race at Brands Hatch means he wouldn't score an overall championship point.

His misfortune was compounded when he was eliminated from the running by his team-mate Yann Clairay during the final race of the season in Germany, a disappointment given he had finished a promising tenth in the opening event at Hockenheim.

"The first race performance proved not to be what we had expected it to be," the Dutchman said. "Prior to qualifying we decided to change a couple of things in the set-up. That ultimately proved to be a mistake. I had a huge amount of understeer, almost no grip at all.

"After a strong first race, I was eager to go for points. I spoiled my start which ended with me in the thick of the fray entering the first corner. Yann clipped me and spun me round and that basically meant 'end of story'. Too bad, because I had really hoped to finish the season with a good result."

In addition, Waldschmidt finished ninth in the rookie standings.
