Silverstone: A lap with Rick Pearson.

The LMES is in Britain for the first time for the 1000km of Silverstone. Crash.net asked Rick Pearson of British team Tracsport to describe a lap of the circuit.

Basically we come across the start finish line and click sixth gear almost immediately. You come down towards Copse, we have a big prod on the brakes, down one gear in the race, maybe two in qualifying but it's a bit more stressful on the car so we'll just be going down one into fifth in the race.

You apex Copse about 112mph in the car, feeling all the downforce, try and run right out to the outside and hopefully get hard on the power as soon as you touch the apex. We run flat out up into the Maggots/Becketts complex - we'll hit 155/160mph up into there, its one of the fastest parts of the circuit.

The first left hander, if you are brave, is flat, we then dab the brakes, down one gear into the right hander, let the downforce stick it to the road through the right and then into the left, and hopefully a bit of full throttle through the left hander as well. Then you've got one final right hander to take you back onto the Hangar Straight.

We'll click down into fourth for there. Feed the power on again as soon as you're at the apex and run right out to the apex kerb. Usually by the time we slingshot onto the Hangar, you run wide against the grass on the entry to the Hangar straight, that's where you get fifth gear, we'll get sixth half way down the Hangar, we'll be doing about 160, maybe a bit more with a tow, before you break into Stowe.

Stowe you go past the 100metre board, past the turn board, point it at the apex and then brake! Braking into the apex, you're down two gears, again trying to get on the power very early, we'll hit fifth gear well before we brake for Vale.

Vale is a very slow corner, and quite deceptive. The track rises slightly and then crests into the corner, so we'll brake at the turn board there, and come down to probably third in the race, second in qualifying.

If you do take second for the left hander, you short shift to third into Club, we then keep the foot flat on the floor if we can right round the long right hander at Club which slingshots us up towards the Abbey section. We'll get fifth, if you get a good run out of Club maybe even sixth, before you get to Abbey. Again a very fast part of the circuit, 145mph, this Silverstone circuit is so quick in one of these cars.

The Abbey chicane is a third gear left hander, so you're braking hard, around about the 80metre board, down three gears, into the left, flat through the right hander, then you are up into Bridge.

Bridge is flat in fourth, you're down one gear before the left hander at Brooklands, Brooklands itself is second gear, hold second right into Luffield, third fourth and your flat on the throttle as you come round Woodcote, fifth gear and you're across the start finish line.

All that takes a lot longer to say than it does to do - we're probably looking to lap around the 1min 51secs, 1min 52secs mark.
