Gobert out as Luca lucks in.

Anthony Gobert's proposed comeback to GP500 has been cut short by the Modenas team after just one race, as test rider Luca Cadalora takes over at the Sachsenring.

Gobert was signed, initially, on a one-race contract with Kenny Roberts' operation, but failed to do any better than Spanish rookie rider David de Gea had managed in his outings, and has now been dropped for the experienced Cadalora. The Australian admitted at Donington Park that he was still too heavy to ride a 500, after spending most of the year manhandling Bimota's Superbike, and failed to do the lightweight KR3 justice in the British Grand Prix.

Cadalora has tested the Modenas on a handful of occasions in recent months, and half expected to be the man Roberts called on to replace, or partner, de Gea as the season wore on. The American instead plumped for Gobert when his WSBK team ran out of money.

Cadalora raced the unloved MZ at Sachsenring last season, qualifying third, and although no official announcement has been made, is expected to be on the Modenas this weekend.
