The Spanish Postal service and the Motorcycling Grand Prix Team West Honda Pons announce a collaboration for the 2002 MotoGP season which began last weekend in Japan.

Correos and West Honda Pons will be collaborating for another year in the Motorcycling World Championship, having participated during the last two seasons with sponsorship and public relations activities at the three races held in Spain - Jerez, Barcelona and Valencia - coinciding with the three areas of Correos' influence in Spain: South, North and Centre.

The acceptance of these activities by clients of the postal company has prompted Correos and West Honda Pons to seek a wider relationship for the 2002 season. As a result, this year sees the state-owned company sponsoring the team not only in the three Spanish races, but in all rounds of the World Championship which takes in 5 continents and 13 countries in the season running from April to November.

West Honda Pons, managed by former World Champion, Sito Pons, was the most successful team in the 500cc World Championship last year with its riders Italian Loris Capirossi finishing third and Brazilian Alex Barros fourth in the overall classification. This year's championship renamed MotoGP, with modifications to rules allowing four-stroke motorcycles to compete alongside the traditional two-stroke motorcycles, has heightened interest among media and fans and promises even more exhilarating action on the track. For 2002 West Honda Pons will have its sights firmly set on winning both the rider's championship and team championship.

The President of Correos, Alberto N??ez Feij?o, stated that, "Correos is satisfied with the agreement with West Honda Pons. During the last two seasons our collaboration with the team in the Spanish races has proved very successful and it has been a natural progression to extend the partnership to include the entire championship. It is a great satisfaction for Correos to be part of such a successful team and we are looking forward to supporting Sito, Loris, Alex and the other members of the Spanish team."

Sito Pons, General Manager of West Honda Pons, stated, "On behalf of all the team I would like to express my gratitude to Correos for renewing and amplifying its support for the team in 2002. It is a priority of the team to build on its long-term relationships with its partners and it is clear that the success of our collaboration over the last two seasons and the good relationship we now enjoy has moved Correos into widening its support this season. This season promises to be more competitive than ever, but one thing is for sure: West Honda Pons, with the support of partners like Correos, shall be fighting hard for the Championship."
