Having only just returned from a spell on the sidelines through injury, another accident was just what Max Sabbatani didn't want at the British Grand Prix - but is just what happened in the early stages of the 125cc race.

The diminutive Italian was feeling his way back into the class, and qualified mid-grid for the eighth round of the world championship, but tumbled out of the action on lap one of the 26-lap grand prix.

The diminutive Italian was feeling his way back into the class, and qualified mid-grid for the eighth round of the world championship, but tumbled out of the action on lap one of the 26-lap grand prix.

Fortunately for Sabbatani, and his Fontana Bossini Racing team, the Italian was able to hobble away from the scene of the accident, no more hurt than he had been when he arrived at Donington on Thursday.

"I was unlucky - it was a crazy misfortune," he reported, "The accident broke off the clutch lever and I was not been able to carry on. I am well, however, and the leg I injured at Mugello reacted well."

It was a miserable race all round for the Fontana Bossini team, as Sabbatani's team-mate Stefano Bianco also crashed out.
