Carl Fogarty's ambitious project to get the FP1 ready for action and homologated for this year's World Superbike Championship looks to have failed with the announcement that entry is now delayed until 2003.

According to reports on Motorcyclenews.com Carl Fogarty's World Superbike challenger, the FP1 will not be turning a competitive wheel in anger this year.

As well as produce the race bike, 75 road going examples were required to be produced to satisfy the homologation requirements. It is thought that this was the major stumbling block preventing Foggy's entry from occuring this year

Initially Fogarty had intended for the bike to make its first competition entry at the Laguna Seca round of the World Superbikes. This was then put back, but it was wildly thought that the FP1 would be allowed to enter the series despite the homogation requirements not being made. This would have been in keeping with the leninence shown to Benelli in allowing their entry despite the Italian manufacturer not having made the required amount of road bikes.

This, it appears, has not happened and the Foggy Petronas squad will concentrate on developing the bike for the rest of this year for an all out assult in 2003.

The bike will at least be seen at a World Superbike round this year as it will be out running demonstration laps at the end of this month at the Brands Hatch round of the World Superbike Championship.
