Toseland: Fastest crash then Chili take-out.

James Toseland's first home event as a factory Ducati rider turned into something of a nightmare at Silverstone on Sunday; the #52 being left injured by a high-speed race one fall, then losing his points lead in race two... after being 'taken out' by Frankie Chili.

Toseland had started well in race one, but began to fade from the lead group after the opening laps, then lost the front of his 999 at the high-speed Abbey turn on lap 11 of 20.

"That was the fastest crash of my career, I damaged my thumb and bruised my back," he said later.

The Brit's only consolation was that team-mate, and title rival, Regis Laconi had also fallen - keeping Toseland's championship lead intact. However, with the injuries sustained, race two was always going to be a tough challenge - which Chili made even harder.

"I was a bit banged up and just wanted to put in a gritty performance in race two," he explained. "It was going well (fourth behind Vermeulen, Haga and Laconi), I was being pulled along by the leaders and doing some good race times. I was comfortable and looking forward to getting on the podium in my home race, after the problems I had with the front in race one...

"Then Chili came past, took me out, and by the time I got back on track and tried to catch (fourth placed) Haslam my tyres were starting to go off again. It's been a frustrating weekend, but I haven't lost too much in the championship," he sighed.

Toseland's race two fifth - and Laconi's third place - means James is now three points behind his team-mate with five rounds to go.
