FIM World Superbike Championship promoters, FG Sport, are to undergo a re-brand in 2009 in an attempt to capitalise on an exciting new era for the growing series.

FG Sport will become Infront Motor Sports next season to enhance the exposure of its umbrella brand Infront Sports & Media, a Swiss-based sports marketing company.

Confirmed at the final round of this year's series in Portugal, it comes after FG Sport became part of the Infront Group in May 2007, following Infront's acquisition of the majority interest.

"Infront expanded rapidly through a series of acquisitions in 2006 and 2007 further diversifying our rights portfolio," said Infront's President & CEO Philippe Blatter. "The re-branding of these companies - especially FGSport - is now a priority of the consolidation process. As we now have 23 offices in 10 countries, this is important. We are now focusing on developing synergies so that all Infront companies can benefit from our core expertise and our ability to innovate."

"Motor sports is an important sector of the sports marketing industry where there is scope for growth," Maurizio Flammini, Chairman of Infront Motor Sports added. "We see great potential for Infront Motor Sports as part of the Infront Group, as our properties are enhanced through the greater resources of a larger group."

The re-brand comes as the World Superbike Championship looks towards raising its profile further following a resurgence in popularity in recent years. Indeed, with BMW and Aprilia bringing the number of manufacturers in 2009 up to seven, a bumper grid is expected enhance its reputation.

Furthermore, having returned to the United States in 2008, Africa is back on the calendar for 2009 too following the confirmation that Kyalami in South Africa will also host a round.

Improvements to television production and distribution has also been promised, while Infront Motor Sports will also continue to oversee all four FIM WSBK series' - the World Superbike Championship, World Supersport Championship, Superstock 1000 and European 600 Superstock.
