Haslam and Karl Harris had already had a brief coming together into the final chicane a lap or two earlier and were charging through the field to try and get back to the leading group.

Into the complex on lap five and Sykes made a move up the inside of Haslam.

Leon managed to keep the power on round the outside of the left hand part of the complex called Cobb and as he moved the bike over to take the right hander, Segrave, the back wheel of the HM Plant Honda touched Sykes' front wheel.

Syke was brought down and as he and the bike parted company, Harris, who was minding his own business, was swept from his Yamaha as Sykes's bike hit him in the midriff.

Both riders were able to walk away from the scene, but Harris looked very groggy as he was led into an ambulance.

Shane Byrne was leading the race at the time and the race will be restarted over the remaining distance.
