Bradley Ray has returned to form with a timely pole position at Cadwell Park for Buildbase Suzuki by beating Bennetts British Superbike championship leader Leon Haslam by 0.036s with less than one-tenth of a second splitting the top five.

After returning to the top spot in the final practice session, Haslam looked strong favourite to take pole position by leading the times in Q1 and Q2 but it was Ray who stole the headlines with his sole flying lap in the top nine shootout to land him pole with a 1m 26.152s.

Haslam just missed out on the JG Speedfit Kawasaki but will be content with second place in an intensely competitive Q3 session with RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon completing the front row with third in qualifying.

Following back-to-back poles at the last two rounds, Glenn Irwin claimed the front of the second row for Be Wiser Ducati ahead of Tommy Bridewell who impressed on the Moto Rapido Ducati. FS-3 Racing Kawasaki’s Danny Buchan rounds out row two in sixth with a comfortable gap to Christian Iddon on the Tyco BMW qualifying seventh.

Smiths Racing BMW’s Peter Hickman had to settle for eighth place while 2015 BSB champion Josh Brookes could only manage ninth on the McAMS Yamaha despite having won three of the past four races.

Luke Mossey was the unlucky 10th-place rider to miss out on Q3 on the JG Speedfit Kawasaki ahead of top rookie Tarran Mackenzie on the McAMS Yamaha fractionally in front of Honda’s Jason O’Halloran to complete row four.
