Silvertone double for Kiyo.

'Kiyo' was being chased down by Gregorio Lavilla on the Airwaves Ducati when Steve Plater's AIM Yamaha had a technical problem which left liquid on the track, causing Paul Barron and Tom Tunstall to crash out. This brought out the red flag and the race was declared, bringing Lavilla's chance to catch Kiyo to a premature halt.

The last step of the podium went to the second HM Plant Honda of Johnny Rea, ensuring a productive day for the Honda camp.

Pole-sitter Kiyonari got the holeshot and immediately started to gap second place man Leon Haslam. Shane Byrne, on the Stobart Honda, got a good start, but he was bumped out of the way by Rizla Suzuki's Chris Walker, who took third place from him.

One lap later and Byrne returned the favour, taking Walker and going after Haslam. Walker was then pushed further down the order by hard-riding Spaniard Lavilla. Lap five saw Byrne's bad luck kick in when he was knocked off his bike at Woodcote chicane after hitting the back of Haslam's machine. Haslam clipped a kerb, which picked his bike up, Byrne had no where to go except into him and then into the gravel. Haslam was lucky enough to stay on board.

By now, Kiyo had pulled a 3.304secs lead, but Lavilla was starting to reel him in, breaking the lap record with his efforts. The battle was also underway for third place, with Walker and Leon Camier going at it hammer and tongs. Camier managed to pass Walker, but crashed out one lap later at Priory.

Walker was then under attack by Rea, who got by on lap eleven, relegating the blue Rizla machine to fourth place. On lap twelve, the red flags appeared and the race was called due to the fallen riders.
