Gow puts Jordan in the pink.

For the first time during the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season, Mike Jordan was able to compete at Croft with his own name on the side of his John Guest Racing Honda Integra.

As part of a season-long joke with series boss Alan Gow, Jordan - and son Andrew - has competed during the season to date with a wide range of names on the side of his car including 'Dad' and 'Old Git' with the Eurotech man being part of the first father and son team in the history of the BTCC.

However, it wasn't as straightforward as simply putting his own name back on the car for the annual trip to the North East with the Jordan on the side of the #77 Honda being a rather fetching shade of pink.

That raised its own questions, with Jordan explaining to Crash.net the reasoning behind the latest change - and also getting some revenge on the boss...

"I've got my own name back on the car but it is pink isn't it and a very nice shade of pink - obviously one that Alan is quite partial to!" he said with a wry smile. "I don't know if it is because of the TV show but me and Andy have started to get some 'different' e-mails. They aren't like the ones we normally get and I had three following the last round at Thruxton.

"One of them was condemning me for allowing my son to take part in such a ridiculous pursuit that was making him fraternise with the 'loose women' who hang around race circuits when he should be doing something worthwhile and be at college. At first I thought it was a mate having a laugh but when I read it again, it got a bit strange. I had another from a guy who is unbeaten on his country roads on the way to work and wanted to know when he can have a drive for John Guest Racing and then I had another one from someone who has apparently been a fan of mine for some time. He likes watching the TV and watching my young athletic son. I sent them to Alan and asked if it was someone he was familiar with and he wasn't, and then it escalated from that.

"Alan thought he was appealing to a whole new demographic which must be an Australian term I'm not familiar with, and he seemed very excited that things had 'turned that way' shall we say. He actually came and put the stickers on himself, he skipped across the paddock singing YMCA by the Village People or something like that. He said it was beautiful shade of pink and had some other treats and surprises for me during the weekend.

"I had an interesting 'stop board' waiting for me in practice, so I stopped and didn't realise what the cause was, and then came to the grid in race two and my pit pole was beautifully kitted out in pink feathers.

"This is where Alan has to look at the big picture though, as Louise Goodman came to interview me on the grid and asked me to explain it, so I told her 'Alan keeps sending me little pink messages'. These pink feathers are actually part of a little number I believe Alan was wearing out in Darlington on Saturday night that he wrapped around my pole. You'll have to draw your own conclusions..."

Jordan added that he continued to be amused by the surprises that have greeted him at each of the rounds so far this season - although it remains to be seen what Gow will conjure up when racing resumes at Snetterton after the summer break.

"All joking aside, we've had some good fun again this weekend," Jordan said. "For the guy at the top of the MSA and the top of the BTCC, I think Alan quite likes it all, as he'll know there are some in the pit lane who would get a bit sensitive if he took the piss out of them as much as he has done out of me. But I found it all quite funny!"
