Technical director Mike Gascoyne has revealed that Caterham's 2012 F1 car has successfully passed its FIA crash tests.

Although the team, which was officially renamed last week, has yet to announce a launch date for the new CT-01, the first chassis has already passed the tests required by the FIA.

Under a change in regulations for the 2012 season, the FIA had previously announced that cars would have to have passed the mandatory crash tests before being allowed to take part in winter testing.

"Great week," Gascoyne revealed via his Twitter account. "Renaming as Caterham F1 Team on Tuesday and today our first chassis, CT-01 passes all FIA homologation test. Well done all."

Caterham has retained both Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli for the 2012 season.
