Takagi, De La Rosa For Arrows?

With Pedro Diniz looking to leave the Leafield team, Arrows have expressed an interest in both Tyrrell's Tora Takagi and Jordan test driver Pedro de la Rosa for 1999.

Takagi, who has made an impressive entrance to F1 with the beleaguered Tyrrell team, would be a solid replacement for Diniz, and could go some way to replacing the sponsorship budget the Brazilian would take with him should he leave. The Japanese rookie is thought to have access to around ?5 million for next season.

De la Rosa, likewise, would be able to replenish the Arrows' budget, thanks to his links with Spanish petroleum company Repsol. His contribution is thought to be lower than Takagi's, however, and the Spaniard may also be thought to suffer from inferior circuit knowledge.

The recent signing of former Jordan designer Gary Anderson may be enough of a carrot to persuade Diniz to stay at Arrows, but should the team be forced to use its own engines again in 1999, the Brazilian is expected to jump ship. He is currently talking to both BAR and Sauber about drives for next season, having already missed out on the second seat at Jordan.
