Motorsport's governing body, the FIA, has moved from its traditional home in Paris to new premises in Geneva, Switzerland.

Motorsport's governing body, the FIA, has moved from its traditional home in Paris to new premises in Geneva, Switzerland.


The move, which has been mooted since mid-1998, took place last week, and allows the FIA to share premises with its sister organisation, the International Touring Alliance. Although the transfer to a country with little motorsport heritage - and no current motorsport activity following the 1955 Le Mans tragedy - may seem a strange move for the sport's governing body, FIA president Max Mosley is convinced that a Swiss location is a natural one, placing the FIA alongside other sporting federations and international bodies.


"And we're never going to have a problem with the government over motorsport here," Mosley added, "because there isn't any!"


The new premises have already seen some action, with the decision not to punish British American Racing being made within its walls.
