Alesi-trulli In War Of Words.

The predictable apportioning of blame resulting from the collision between Jarno Trulli and Jean Alesi in Montreal continued to rumble on long after the race had finished last night.

The incident was the second to involve both driver in as many years in Canada, and the aggrieved Alesi demanded that action be taken against his aggressor. The Frenchman was seen in earnest conversation with Trulli's team boss Alain Prost as soon as he returned to the pits, and has called for a GPDA investigation into the shunt.

"In the past we had no rules, and drivers could zig-zag and block and nothing was done," Alesi moaned, "Now we have a commission which watches us to see that what we do is correct. It is time that they [the commission] gave some really heavy sentences."

Trulli, however, defended himself, and claims to have sought a second opinion on his guilt.

"I took the decision not to make an aggressive start, because the exit from the first corner is very important. Unfortunately, Frentzen hit the brakes unexpectedly in front of me and, to avoid him, I was obliged to brake hard, and I spun off. I completely lost control of my car."

"At the end of the race, I went - with my team manager - to see the race director, to clarify the situation with the help of television images. They confirmed that I was not responsible for the accident."
