Deutsche Post or DHL for Jordan title backer?

Jordan Grand Prix's decision to unveil its 2002 campaign at Brussels airport has set tongues wagging among the Formula One fraternity.

The team has tested for most of the winter without logos on its new EJ12-Honda, prompting speculation that Benson&Hedges will not be continuing as title sponsor. Although the tobacco brand is expected to remain aboard for another season, the lack of backing in recent weeks and the decision to launch in Brussels has caused rumour that either Deutsche post or DHL will take over the primary sponsor role.

According to Reuters, the team has acknowledged Deutsche Post's involvement in organising and running the launch, and it is seen as the frontrunner in the race to back the efforts of Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato in 2002.

"In the past, the launch has always been in the United Kingdom, but Deutsche Post are organising the 2002 launch and they are doing things the way they want to," a spokesman admitted.

Other sources have rumoured that DHL would be taking over the title sponsorship, as its European headquarters are located in Belgium.

The team also moved to confirm that its finances were good, despite rumours to the contrary, and insisted that new names would be added to the sponsorship portfolio at next week's ceremony.
