Jaguar reveals new head of aerodynamics.

Jaguar Racing has announced a major step forward in its on-going quest for aerodynamic advancement on the troublesome R3, as Ben Agathangelou joins the team as head of aerodynamics from the start of May.

Agathangelou joins Jaguar Racing from Renault F1, where his most recent role was also as head of aerodynamics. His immediate challenge in Milton Keynes, however, will be to oversee the aerodynamic improvement of this season's Jaguar R3 - a project aided by the imminent opening of the team's new state-of-art windtunnel, which will be operational from next week.

"Ben will bring a new and experienced technical dimension to this team," Jaguar Racing managing and technical director Guenther Steiner said, announcing the news, "We have never really lacked in any other aspect of our racing package apart from aerodynamic efficiency and, combined with our new windtunnel, we can now set clearly defined goals which will allow us to compete on an even playing field with our competitors in Formula One.

"There isn't a big disparity between the teams these days when it comes to engines, tyres and other major components, as was the case a few years ago. To extract any true performance improvement these days takes experienced aerodynamicists who have the resource in windtunnel terms and, at last, we have that resource on our doorstep.

"Ben's appointment is the latest step in our ongoing efforts to build a solid technical base that will better prepare Jaguar Racing for the long-term challenges that lie ahead. Our efforts at recruiting the best personnel do not stop here, and we look forward to announcing some more additions to our team in the very near future."

Agathangelou will oversee the core aerodynamic programme at Jaguar Racing, led by chief aerodynamicist Mark Handford and chief designer John Russell. Prior to joining Renault F1 in September 1999, when it was known as Benetton Formula, he was chief aerodynamicist on the Honda Racing Development programme between April 1998 and August 1999. He also served time at the Tyrrell Racing Organisation - as senior aerodynamicist between August 1997 and April 1998 - and at McLaren International - as aerodynamics analyst between August 1994 and July 1997.
