Brawn welcomes 'spy in the cockpit'.

At yesterday's launch of Ferrari's 2003 racer, Technical Director Ross Brawn stated that he expects the FIA to introduce what he called a "Spy in the cockpit" to ensure teams stick to the upcoming driver aid ban.

"During the 2003 season, at the British Grand Prix, there will be a series of changes to reduce the usage of 'driver aids'," Brawn confirmed, "This means that traction control, launch control and automatic gearboxes will be banned.

At yesterday's launch of Ferrari's 2003 racer, Technical Director Ross Brawn stated that he expects the FIA to introduce what he called a "Spy in the cockpit" to ensure teams stick to the upcoming driver aid ban.

"During the 2003 season, at the British Grand Prix, there will be a series of changes to reduce the usage of 'driver aids'," Brawn confirmed, "This means that traction control, launch control and automatic gearboxes will be banned.

"In order to police these strategies more effectively, the FIA is introducing a 'spy in the cockpit', which will be a monitoring device inside the car to provide data to detect the usage of these strategies," he revealed.

"We believe it essential that we avoid the suspicion and innuendo that existed prior to the legalisation of these strategies, and we are working together with the FIA to ensure satisfactory policing in the future," added the Englishman.

Another option suggested to ensure teams remain within the rules is a $1million reward for anyone that can provide evidence of cheating.
