McLaren prepare to say goodbye to West.

Team McLaren-Mercedes are expected to remove their West cigarette branding at the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend, due to new anti-tobacco legislation, which comes into force at the end of July.

West branding will be replaced by Johnnie Walker logos - the 'world's number one Scotch whisky', which will appear prominently on the side of the engine cover of the MP4-20 cars for the first time at the Turkish Grand Prix on August 21.

Team boss, Ron Dennis has issued a statement thanking West for all their backing, which began back in 1997.

"Everyone within the McLaren Mercedes team is very appreciative for all the support our title partner has given us over the last eight seasons," Dennis commented in the teams' official pre-event release. "This time has embraced two drivers' world championships, one constructors' title and 38 race wins. Our partnership began with victory in Australia 1997, and it is very satisfying to be leaving the partnership at a time when we have a competitive package and are challenging for victories."

McLaren however, according to some reports, may still run with West branding on Friday in practice, before the logos are removed on Saturday and Sunday.

What the other tobacco branded teams will do is still unclear.
