The FIA has confirmed that organisers of the Turkish Grand Prix have appealed for leniency following the $5million fine that was levied against them for irregularities in August's podium ceremony.

The sport's governing body revealed that the case would go to the International Court of Appeal in Paris next month, with a 7 November date set for a hearing into both the size and payment of the fine, as well as further assessment of the breach of protocol which saw Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat present the winner's trophy to Felipe Massa, having been announced as the 'president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus'.

The FIA's World Motor Sport Council has already found the National Sporting Authority of Turkey and the organisers of the grand prix itself guilty of breaking the rules on podium presentations, but stopped short of throwing both the race and other FIA-backed events in Turkey off the calendar.
