Ant wants to race, confirms father.

Anthony Davidson's father has underlined the fact that his son is chasing a race seat for next year's Formula One campaign, feeling that he has gone as far as he can in his testing role with Honda.

Davidson has been the back-up and development pilot for BAR and Honda for the past six seasons, playing a testing role behind former kart sparring partner Jenson Button, but now feels that the time is right to make a name for himself on a Sunday, rather than just the Friday of each grand prix meeting.

Davidson has been the back-up and development pilot for BAR and Honda for the past six seasons, playing a testing role behind former kart sparring partner Jenson Button, but now feels that the time is right to make a name for himself on a Sunday, rather than just the Friday of each grand prix meeting.

His name has been linked with the Honda-engined Super Aguri F1 team in recent weeks, although speculation that he would be confirmed as part of its 2007 line-up at the Japanese Grand Prix proved to be a false dawn for the 27-year old Briton. Such a move would probably receive the backing of Honda, which has been impressed with Davidson's efforts - enough to persuade him against joining Williams last season or accepting a financially attractive move to Champ Cars with Newman/Haas Racing. As a result, he has just three grands prix under his belt, but is now eager for more.

"For years, he's devoted himself to Honda at the expense of his own racing," Dennis Davidson commented to the local Hemel Hempstead Today newspaper, "He wants to race - it's never been a secret - and the management are seeing what they can do for him."
