F2 Hungaroring - Qualifying Results

Callum Ilott continued his strong start to the 2020 FIA Formula 2 season by grabbing pole position for round three of the season at the Hungaroring.

Held in wet conditions, UNI-Virtuosi’s Illot sprung to the top of the order shortly before a red flag for Jehan Daruvala’s stricken Carlin brought proceedings to a halt with four minutes remaining.

A winner during round one at the Red Bull Ring, the four points for pole position lift him just one point shy of series leader Robert Shwartzman, who could only manage 11th on the grid.

Luca Ghiotto will line up on the front row in the Hitech car as he seeks to get his 2020 campaign underway properly having failed to score so far this year, while Guanyu Zhou was again up there in the second UNI-Virtuosi car in third.

Briitish driver Dan Ticktum produced his best qualifying performance of the season to score a second row start for DAMS, heading off Mick Schumacher, who led the order early on before slipping to fifth position in the Prema Racing car.

ART duo Christian Lundgaard and Marcus Armstrong followed up in sixth and seventh, ahead of Campos’ Jack Aitken, DAMS' Sean Gelael and Giuliano Alesi in the HWA Racelab car

Just outside the top ten, behind Shwartzman, Louis Deletraz will starts 12th, with Pedro Piquet, while Red Bull Ring standout Yuki Tsunoda gets away from 14th on the grid in the second of the Carlin cars, while Guilherme Samaia brought out a red flag for spinning out early on.
