Double for Meyrick.

Andy Meyrick made the best possible start to his British F3 International Series career, taking pole position and victory in both races at the season opener at Oulton Park.

Andy Meyrick made the best possible start to his British F3 International Series career, taking pole position and victory in both races at the season opener at Oulton Park.

Meyrick confirmed his pre-season pace to take pole position for both races, and remained unchallenged through the weekend's races to take two lights-to-flag victories.

Having spent every day in pre-season testing as the quickest National Class driver, the 22-year-old was the favourite to take victory and he went on to take pole position in the National Class and 16th place overall for both races.

Meyrick made a great start in both races and was able to challenge the pace of the International Class cars. Unchallenged by his fellow National Class racers, Meyrick romped home to two consecutive victories, and finished twelfth overall in race one and 15th overall in race two.

"Obviously I'm pleased to have had such a strong start to the season, to take 41 points from a possible 42 is a great confidence boost," he said. "We need to try and do the same at Croft and not get complacent. F3 is a very competitive championship and the other drivers and teams will close the gap and continue to develop, so we must do the same. There was a little more pressure this weekend, with this being my first F3 race and my home track, but there was a great atmosphere and the team gave me a perfect car for the weekend.

"I don't think I realised how important qualifying was before this weekend. Qualifying on pole for the National Class is one thing, but it really does help to be as far up the overall grid as possible. I'll be aiming to improve my qualifying performance at Croft to give myself more of an advantage in the races."
