Abay frustrated by qualifying woes.

Sam Abay is eyeing an improvement in qualifying after scoring just a single point in the latest round of the British Formula 3 Championship at Snetterton.

The Australian driver was hoping to maintain the consistent run of form that has marked his rookie F3 season with Carlin Motorsport so far, but struggled in a wet qualifying session that would leave him down in 11th and 10th on the grid for the two races.

With Snetterton offering up minimal overtaking opportunities for those in the mid-field, Abay's progress up the order in the first race was stymied by a close battle for seventh, which allowed him to rise no higher than tenth.

"We all got bottled up behind (Nick) Tandy, and credit to him he did a great job holding us off, but it was just frustrating we weren't able to find a way past, because all three of us had a lot more pace."

He hoped for more in the second race but was involved in a clash with Tandy that caused a puncture to drop him out of contention. Abay, however, was adamant about exactly what had caused his tough weekend.

"We endured our most challenging weekend so far, all stemming from our poor qualifying. If you don't qualify well, you pay the price. This weekend we paid the price."
