Alex Muller's maiden appearance in the FIA F3000 points table was short-lived, after race stewards in Monaco penalised him for contact with rival Ricardo Mauricio.

The German was chasing his Brazilian opponent through the mean streets of the Principality, eager to rack up his first top six finish in a race where half of the field had already fallen by the wayside. In his desperation to get past the Red Bull Junior car, however, contact was made, sending the then sixth-placed Mauricio into the barriers. Although the Brazilian managed to gain an eighth-place classification, the incident cost him a certain points finish, and it was this that the stewards decided to penalise Muller for.

As a result, neither driver gains points from the fifth round of the series, with sixth spot going to Astromega's Mario Haberfeld.
