Speed, Red Bull become first iSport signings.

American driver Scott Speed has become the first signing by new GP2 team iSport International, stepping up from Formula Renault for a crack at Formula One's newest feeder series.

Having decided to step back down the ladder after illness wrecked his maiden F3 season in 2003, the 21-year old dominated the 2004 European and German Formula Renault championships, taking ten poles and twelve victories during the year. His performance opened several doors for 2005, most recently providing Speed with the chance to sample one of Eddie Cheever's Indy Racing League machines.

"I am excited about the opportunity to race in GP2 this year," the American admitted, "It's a big step up from the Formula Renault in terms of power and speed, but that's
exactly what I am looking for as a driver trying to make it to Formula One."

Like the Cheever squad, Speed enjoys backing from drinks brand - and new F1 team owner - Red Bull, and the Austrian company's distinctive logo will adorn the American's iSport machine in GP2 this season.

Despite being a new team, iSport International was granted one of the twelve slots on the GP2 entry, and aims to repeat the success of the former Petrobras Junior F3000 team which provides many of its personnel.

"We are delighted to have signed such a promising young talent as Scott Speed," a spokesman said, "We have seen a little of his potential during a successful 2004 season, and have been impressed by his qualifying performances as well as the race results. With his support from Red Bull, I am sure he is destined to be one of the most successful drivers to come out of the USA for some years. The whole team is looking forward to this exciting new season in GP2, working with Scott and forging a
strong relationship."
