Nico Rosberg looks likely to become the next GP2 driver to begin a regular testing role in Formula One, having apparently signed a deal to work with the BMW Williamsf1 team this year.

Although his debut in GP2 was thwarted by electrical problems during first practice, the Finn's mood will be lightened by confirmation that he is all set to join Antonio Pizzonia on the Williams testing strength - something world champion father Keke all but confirmed to Crash.net at Imola. It is not known when the news will be officially confirmed by the team, but Rosberg Jr driver will have his first outing at Silverstone next week.

The 19-year old has had outings with the team at Barcelona and Valencia in the past, initially alongside GP2 rival Nelson Piquet Jr - who he appears to have beaten to the testing role. Although the two proved evenly matched in the early Williams outings, Piquet Jr apparently did himself no favours by crashed a BAR while testing with the Brackley team at Jerez in February.

Nico's father Keke drove for Williams between 1982-'85, winning the world championship in his first season with the team, before going on to join McLaren.
