DPR duo aiming to turn practice into points.

David Price Racing is bidding to build on a solid start to its season in the second round of the 2007 GP2 campaign in Barcelona this weekend, as its rookie drivers seek to edge closer to the points-scoring positions.

A dismal qualifying session first time out in Bahrain left Andy Soucek and Christian Bakkerud occupying the back row of the starting grid, but a stronger showing in the races saw the pairing come home line astern in 12th and 13th places in the opener, followed by a top ten finish for the former in race two.

For World Series by Renault graduate Soucek in particular, the first of two Spanish meetings on the 2007 calendar will give him an extra incentive to shine in front of his partisan supporters.

"It's special to be racing in front of my home crowd," the 21-year-old enthused, "although the pressure on me is nothing like that of Fernando (Alonso). It's like playing a home football match - the surroundings are familiar, but it's a different atmosphere with the adrenalin pumping harder and motivation high from the support you are given.

"I'm feeling very positive for Barcelona. After the Bahrain weekend we had an in-depth debrief of our performance - reviewing the data, watching replays of the races and analysing every aspect of it. We learned so much from the weekend, and not just about the car. I could see my driving style can be changed to help as well, so we'll be using all this information to make further progress in these next two races.

"I know the track in Barcelona well, and I'll be looking to qualify no lower than 12th or 13th. That will give us the best chance of moving forwards in the race, and certainly into the top ten."

British F3 race-winner Bakkerud, meanwhile, endured a baptism of fire on his GP2 bow in the desert, as his weekend came to a premature end when he was eliminated in the first lap shunt in the shorter second race.

"We've made plenty of progress since Bahrain," the 22-year-old stated. "Racing is always the real test and that was a good learning experience. Now the first event has been completed I know what to expect, particularly the handling of the car with a full fuel load and how the tyres wear over the course of the race. We've tested at Barcelona and it was a good session, so we should be able to use this to good advantage and continue to improve as we gain track time with the car."
