Cadillac remained in front in the opening part of qualifying, with Alex Lynn topping the session in the #12 Jota Cadillac V-Series.R.

Lynn outpaced the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 of Dries Vanthoor, who survived a scare after his first lap was deleted from track limits infringement.

Antonio Giovinazzi ended up third in the #51 Ferrari 499P, ahead of Kevin estre in the #6 Porsche.

Under the new format for 2025, the 15 quickest car progressed into Thursday’s Hyperpole, which will decide the pole sitter for the 93rd running of Le Mans.

The biggest shock came in form of the #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid, with Nyck de Vries ending up a distant 17th on the grid.

Both Peugeot 9X8s and Aston Martin Valkyrie LMHs also failed to make the cut, while Proton’s customer Porsche was also knocked out

Louis Deletraz put the No. 199 AO by TF Oreca 07 on top in the LMP2 category, outpacing the No. 23 United Autosports.

With only the top 12 cars eligible for Hyperpole, the No. 11 Proton Competition, the No. 18 IDEC Sport, the No. 34 Inter Europol and the No. 24 Nielsen Racing were knocked out in the session.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Al Harthy set the quickest time in LMGT3 aboard the No. 46 WRT BMW M4 GT3. The Omani driver beat Ian James in the No. 27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 to the top spot by two tenths.

As is the case in LMP2, the fastest 12 cars in the session will progress into Thursday’s Hyperpole, where they will battle for pole position.

Two out of three Iron Lynx entries were eliminated in the first part of qualifying on a disastrous day for Mercedes’ customer team.

The joint 30-minute session for LMP2 and LMGT3 cars was red-flagged twice, first for a stoppage for the #60 Iron Lynx Mercedes at the 15-minute mark and then again with just five minutes on the clock when the #150 Richard Mille AF Corse Oreca ended in the barriers. The second incident brought an early end to the session.
