Tech3 KTM MotoGP rider Enea Bastianini says he will test a different RC16 chassis to what he has currently been racing at the upcoming Australian Grand Prix.

The Italian has had an up-and-down season on the KTM, though has enjoyed podium appearances in the second half of the campaign.

He admitted last month that his bounce in form was a result of him understanding that he needed to adapt his riding style to the bike.

As such, he will now re-test a chassis that Pedro Acosta has been racing with as Enea Bastianini says he was “completely without confidence” when he tried it previously to understand if it was better or not.

“The chassis is available for everybody,” he said.

“Just the swingarm is not available for everybody and only for Pedro at the moment.

“We have in the programme to try that chassis again, because we tried it it already in the test.

“But I wasn’t able to understand which one was better because I was completely without confidence at the start of the season with my bike.

“Now, it will be better to try it again and it will be easier to understand it now. It’s in the plan for the Australian Grand Prix.”

Bastianini endured a tough Indonesian Grand Prix, in which he was 17th on the grid and failed to finish both races.

“Well, has been a tough weekend for me,” he added.

“At the end, it has been like the start, but it’s ok. The guys worked a lot to give me the best bike possible, but in the race something happened.

“I wasn’t able to do a fantastic race and I think we have to work to understand for the future to do something more.

“This weekend has been strange, but something positive was in the fast corners we were competitive and I was losing 0.4s less in sector two and that was important.

“We lost something on the brakes, but now we know what to do on the bike to compete.”
