The Padgetts team have announced that Jay Vincent, who rode for the team last season, will contest the 2001 500cc World Championship with the French based Pulse Racing Team.

Vincent will join Australian Mark Willis on a Swissauto V4 500cc machine, in an all-new 2001 Kenny Roberts chassis. His first taste of his new machine will be in the IRTA tests at Jerez, Estoril and Valencia in the coming weeks.

Whilst no longer riding for the Padgetts team, they wished to express their best wishes to Jay for the future, although Clive Padgett will continue his friendship and professional relationship with Jay in his capacity as his Personal Manager.

Both Padgett and Vincent are said to be delighted at moving into the 500 class with a machine which, in 1999, Jurgen van der Goorbergh managed to put an earlier version of the bike onto pole - twice.

They also believe that if the right set-up can be found, then, unlike the V twin previously offered, they will have the power to compete at the highest level.

British Superbike ace and fellow Briton Chris Walker, who made his 500cc debut with the Padgetts team, will join Vincent, eleventh in last year's 250cc class, on the MotoGP grid next season.

Padgetts racing team involvement in the 2001 World Championship remains under review.
